Apps for Children with Dyslexia or Dyspraxia
People with Dyslexia may have difficulties with reading, writing and spelling, often having trouble with the order of letters in a word, or confusing letters like ‘b’ and ‘d’ or ‘p’ and ‘q’. Those with Dyspraxia (also called developmental co-ordination disorder, or DCD) can appear to be clumsy, owing to poor co-ordination involving gross or fine motor skills.
These two conditions are quite different, but one thing they have in common is that mental ability and intellectual skills are usually unaffected.
Support in Our Apps for Dyslexia
Our Special Words and Special Stories apps both include an option to use an OpenDyslexic font (as shown below). This font was designed to be easier to read for many people with Dyslexia.

Special Words

Special Stories
Both apps can be used to help improve reading skills - Special Words for single words and short phrases, and Special Stories also for longer sentences. Both offer a choice of smaller or larger font sizes, and include two variants of the OpenDyslexic font, differing in the shape of the letter ‘a’. You can also use any of the standard fonts on your device.
Support in Our Apps for Dyspraxia
We have designed all of our apps to be easy to use for children who have difficulties with fine and gross motor skills, and problems with hand-eye co-ordination.

Using Special Stories

Using Special Words
Our apps respond to the child's intention when tapping or dragging, even if they place more than one finger on the screen or are unable to position items accurately.
Activities in our apps are not timed: you can take as long as needed. Where there are animations, we provide settings to adjust their speed.
