This guide is for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users. We have another guide for Android users.

Touch-Words, Touch-Numbers, Touch-Colors, Touch-Shapes, Touch-Animals and Touch-Emotions are very simple cause-and-effect apps to help children who are at the first stage of learning to talk and to read, to recognize numbers, and to understand colors, shapes and emotions.

Each app contains a set of pictures, shown one at a time. After a picture appears from the right, you simply need to touch it once: then the written word (or number in the case of Touch-Numbers) will appear below it and the word will be spoken. After a couple of seconds, the picture and written word will disappear to the left and the next picture will appear from the right.

For those who are unable to use a touch screen, but who can operate switches, all of these apps can be used with a Bluetooth-connected adaptive switch.

All except Touch-Numbers have an option to use CAPITAL LETTERS (see Chapter 2).

It is best to play alongside your child to support and reward them. When each picture appears, encourage them to say and sign the word (or do this for them) before touching the picture.

When all of the pictures have been shown, the app automatically restarts from the first one. If you want to force it to go back to the first picture immediately, quit and restart it (to quit the app on iOS 7 or later, double-tap the Home button to reveal all the recently-used apps, swipe to left or right to find the app, then flick it upwards off the screen).

Once your child has become familiar with the words in Touch-Words, you can continue to help them with the aid of our follow-on app, Special Words, which features the same 28 pictures and words, plus 68 more. Special Words has a variety of picture and word matching activities, facilities to easily add your own pictures, words and audio, a range of configuration options, and much more.

Similarly, to progress from using Touch-Numbers, you can continue to help your child with the aid of our Special Numbers app, which contains a set of highly configurable activities to help develop early number skills, including counting, matching, ordering, comparing and selecting.

Touch-Animals uses the same pictures as in our Match & Find app.

To follow on from Touch-Colors, Touch-Shapes and Touch-Emotions you can download matching free add-ons to use in our Special Words and Special Stories apps.
