We are extremely grateful to UnLtd for their initial grant funding and support in 2011. Thanks also to DLA Piper for legal assistance, arranged through the UnLtd Connect support network. Special iApps was awarded a further grant as an UnLtd Big Venture Challenge winner in 2016, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

During 2017 to 2018 Special iApps has been assisted by a grant from the Northern Rock Foundation, managed by the Community Foundation, and also received investment from the North East Social Investment Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures.

From the onset of the global Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, we received further investment from the North East Social Investment Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures. Together with an Access COVID grant plus a grant of £3,000 from The GX Project**. This support helped us develop Special Words Plus, an educational subscription-based web-app designed to support the changes in learning highlighted by the health crisis.

In 2021 we were assisted by a grant from The Northstar Foundation to support children in the North East financially disadvantaged by COVID-19.

**The GX Project is led by NewcastleGateshead Initiative, and supported by the Innovation Super Network. GX provides a range of opportunities to North-East SMEs and scaleups before, during and after the Great Exhibition of the North and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

We are very grateful to The Sol Curry Charitable Trust, who kindly awarded iPads to William and his friends. Many thanks to Pretorian Technologies Ltd for providing us with an APPlicator switch interface, iSwitch and Smoothie 75 switches.

Had it not been for the inspiration of Lesley and Cameron Moore, the original idea of Special iApps would never have been conceived.

We would like to thank the staff, parents and children at The Champion Centre, www.championcentre.org.nz for their feedback and suggestions. Especial thanks also to Julie Brown and the schools who participated in The Durham iPad Project.

Thanks to all our friends and family for volunteering their time, children and mobile devices, to help us get where we are now, and to the parents who have allowed us to include photos and videos of their children on our website.
