Funding

We are extremely grateful to UnLtd for their initial grant funding and support in 2011. Thanks also to DLA Piper for legal assistance, arranged through the UnLtd Connect support network. Special iApps was awarded a further grant as an UnLtd Big Venture Challenge winner in 2016, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

During 2017 to 2018 Special iApps has been assisted by a grant from the Northern Rock Foundation, managed by the Community Foundation, and also received investment from the North East Social Investment Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures.

From the onset of the global Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, we received further investment from the North East Social Investment Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures. Together with an Access COVID grant plus a grant of £3,000 from The GX Project**. This support helped us develop Special Words Plus, an educational subscription-based web-app designed to support the changes in learning highlighted by the health crisis.

In 2021 we were assisted by a grant from The Northstar Foundation to support children in the North East financially disadvantaged by COVID-19.
