Settings for All 6 Activities

For each activity, Spell the word, Find the first letter, Find the ending, Find the vowel, Find the double letters, Find the sound, there are global settings that affect all of the activities. However, each of the activities has the following settings and this enables you to customise the app for your child's ability. For example, once spelling skills have been developed, you can remove the hints and add extra cards for Spell the word and retain hints for the other activities which they still have difficulty with. As your child develops skills related to each activity, you can then adjust the configurations to make the activities more challenging.

  • Letter Range - Minimum word size

You can set the minimum word size from 3 to 20. The default is 5.

  • Letter Range - Maximum word size

You can set the maximum word size from 3 to 20. The default is 5.

For example, for younger children if you want to select 3 letter words only: set minimum word size to 3 and maximum word size to 3. An alternative would be to create your own profile that just contains 3 letter words.

  • Level of Difficulty - Extra cards (for Spell the word, Find the first letter, Find the endingFind the double letters, Find the sound)

By default there is 1 extra card. This means that only the letters needed to spell the word are displayed and can be selected by the child to put in any order. You can specify from 0-10 extra cards, which makes the activity more difficult as the child develops spelling skills.

  • Level of Difficulty - Vowel cards (for Find the vowel only)

By default this is set to 1. The options are 1-5. If 5 is selected you will see all 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u). For words that contain more than one vowel, the defaut is to show each possibility. For example, for the word boat with an extra vowel setting to 1, you will be shown two vowels (a, o).

  • Hint Options - Text hint

By default this is flash hint (ON)the text hint colour is blue.

Options are Always hint (the letters to find are shown in the word), Flash hint (the letters to match are shown then disappear, if you tap the image then the flash hint is repeated), None (there are no visual text hints shown).

  • Hint Options - Image hint

By default it is ON (i.e. the image is shown in the activity). If OFF then a sound icon will be shown instead. Pressing the image in each activity will repeat what hints are active, and depending on your other settings could be sound hints or text hints.

  • Playing Sound - Before starting

By default this is ON which plays the recorded audio for the word at the beginning of the activity.

  • Playing Sound - After match

By default this is ON which repeats the recorded audio for the word when the letters are correctly matched in the activity.

  • Playing Sound - When tap object
